Subgroups

Subgroups are a sub-room or a room within a room. Subgroups are useful because anything applied to the parent room is also applied to the subgroup. For example, if carpet is laid in the bedroom, a subgroup such as a closet has carpet added automatically.


Tip Icon When a room is marked as a subgroup, the room no longer appears as a separate group in the Estimate section. This document specifically covers subgroups created in Studio. For assistance with nesting groups in the Estimate section, see our Nesting groups document

Add a subgroup

Follow the steps below to mark a room as a subgroup of another room.


  1. Within Studio, select the room to make a subgroup.
  2. Select Properties.

  3. Select the desired room from the Subgroup Of menu.
  4. Select X to save.
    Note: Once marked as a subgroup, the group name displays with a number in parentheses, and the room no longer displays in the Estimate section.

Remove a subgroup

Follow the steps below to ungroup a room.


  1. Within Studio, right-click the room to ungroup.
  2. Select Separate.

  3. Select OK.
    Note: After separating, the group name displays without a number in parentheses, and the room displays in the Estimate section. Any items that were applied to the room are also removed.
